However, all is not lost on migrants to the Island City. There are several areas around the city where one can get flats for rent in less than Rs 12,000. These areas may be far flung from the city, but they can be accessed easily through a network of roadways and railways.

Most of the flats that are available here for less than Rs 12,000 per month are 1BHK ones. Neighbourhoods in Thane and Navi Mumbai have evolved as potential rental options. Suburbs in these satellite cities have plenty of 1BHK flats on offer which are sought after among young, single professionals. In the Thane district, flats for rent in Dombivli East, Thane and the Belapur-Thane Road have rentals that are as low as Rs 10,000. In Navi Mumbai, Koperkhairane, Ghansoli and Airoli have rental accommodations available within this pricing.

Closeness to IT companies that have set up base in Thane and Navi Mumbai has made these areas much in demand. The flats for rent in Dombivli East, Thane and Navi Mumbai for Rs 10,000 per month measure 500 to 700 sq ft in terms of built-up areas. However, units of lower and higher values can also be availed with added amenities.  Easy access through Palm Beach Road, Jogeshwari Vikhroli Link Road and the Eastern Express Highway has evolved Airoli into a prominent realty destination for 1BHK flats. Rental values of properties in Ghansoli on the other hand are between Rs 6000 and 10000 in a month.

Thanks to its proximity to the commercial hub of Vashi, Koperkhairane is gaining popularity among prospective tenants. These apartments are available as unfurnished and furnished ones. The furnished flats are available with gymnasium, Wi-Fi connectivity, laundry services and air conditioning. Apart from flats for rent in Dombivali East, Thane, areas such as Kalyan West, Ghodbunder Road and Badlapur collectively have 37 percent of 1BHK units in the area. All the neighbourhoods have old and new constructions that range from Rs 5,000 to 10,000 in a month.

Most of these neighbourhoods are connected to Mumbai via the Mumbai Western Suburban Railway network. Their respective municipal corporations also ply bus services for easy commutes within the city. Shopping areas, markets, banks and hospitals are located in the vicinity for tenants to make use of.

Even though far from the main city, these areas offer affordable accommodations to home seekers. It has made it easier for the thousands of migrants to the city to live on a budget.
